Princeton House Behavioral Health (PHBH) is the premier provider of inpatient, partial hospital, and intensive outpatient services in central New Jersey for patients with mental health, substance abuse, or co-occurring disorders. PHBH also offers state-of-the-art Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) for adults with treatment-resistant depression.
 
Princeton House is committed to using evidence-based interventions customized to meet the unique individual needs of each patient we care for.  We have an exceptional Performance Improvement program that systematically examines clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction to ensure that we continue to refine and improve our services while providing the highest level of customer service.

Who We Serve

  • Children
    • The Children's Program offers Partial Hospital and Intensive Outpatient Services to children ages 6-12 with significant emotional and behavioral problems that interfere with functioning at school and home.  The program provides help for children with impulse control problems, depression, and aggressive or self-destructive behavior.
    • Children can attend the full day program 9:30am - 3:30pm five days per week or the half-day program 12:30pm - 3:30pm three days per week.  Program placement is based on each child's individual needs.  Transportation is available within defined areas.

      • Comprehensive evaluation and medical management by Board Certified Child Psychiatrist

      • Licensed Master's level Clincians and Registered Nurses

      • Patient and family-centered treatment approach with family therapy throughout treatment

      • Consistent collaboration and communication with schools and other support services

      • Two (2) hours of academic instruction by certified teachers (full-day program only)

  • Adolescents

    • Adolescent Partial Hospital Program

      • The Adolescent Partial Hospital Program is designed for adolescents with psychiatric problems or a combination of psychiatric and substance abuse problems that impair functioning at home and school. Adolescents attend the six hour program (9:30am - 3:30pm) five days per week. Transportation is available within defined areas.

    • Adolescent After-School Intensive Outpatient Program

      • The Adolescent After-School Program is designed for adolescents with psychiatric problems and/or substance abuse that significantly impair functioning at school or at home. Adolescents attend the three hour program from 3:30pm - 6:30pm three days per week. Transportation is available to pick up students from schools within defined areas.

    • Program Options

      • Psychiatric: Adolescents who are seeking help for a variety of acute emotional and behavioral problems find the support necessary to regain stability and return to improved functioning at home and school

      • Co-Occurring: Adolescents who experience both psychiatric and substance abuse problems find better ways to regain emotional stability and achieve abstinence.

      • Substance Abuse: Adolescents whose primary problem is substance use will learn about the disease concept of addiction and will work toward abstinence through incorporating healthy alternative behaviors

    • Outpatient Services: North Brunswick, Moorestown, and Hamilton

  • Young Adults

    • Inpatient Services: Princeton

      • Princeton House Behavioral Health Inpatient facility in Princeton provides medical detoxification and inpatient addiction recovery services to young men and women between the ages of 18 and mid-20s. These intensive, short-term treatment services are designed for those who are chemically dependent and require treatment within a 24-hour, inpatient substance abuse treatment setting. The program also serves individuals with some mental health problems co-occurring with a primary addiction.

    • Outpatient Services: Princeton, North Brunswick, Hamilton, and Moorestown

      • ?The Young Adult Program offers Partial Hospital and Intensive Outpatient services to young men and women ages 18 through mid-20's who are coping with mental health and/or substance abuse problems that are negatively affecting their sense of well-being and overall functioning. Adults in the Partial Hospital Program attend six hours per day (9:30am - 3:30pm) four/five days per week. Adults in the Intensive Outpatient Program attend three hours per day (9:30am - 12:30pm) three days per week. Transportation is available within defined areas.

    • The Young Adult Programs feature:

      • A curriculum that focuses on age-appropriate topics for young men and women between the ages of 18 and mid-20's

      • Individualized personal assessment to avoid future relapse

      • Groups specializing in topics such as school, work, relationships, substance abuse, and other issues facing young adults today

    • Treatment modalities include:

      • Group therapy that includes coping and life skills training, and creative arts therapy

      • Individual sessions when indicated

      • Family involvement including individual and multi-family educational groups

      • Medication monitoring individually with a psychiatrist and in grou with a registered nurse, RN

      • Princeton House Behavioral Health offers a full range of treatment services for adults who are experiencing acute mental health problems, struggling with substance abuse or both. Specialized services for adolescents are also offered. Our 110-bed Inpatient facility is located on 10 wooded acres just two miles from the heart of downtown Princeton

      • Princeton House Behavioral Health's Partial Hospital and Intensive Outpatient Services provides an intensity of care that falls between Inpatient and Traditional Outpatient for adults who are experiencing significant mental health problems, struggling with substance abuse or both.  The Partial Hospital Program runs six hours per day and five days per week and the Intensive Outpatient Programs run three hours per day and are available five days per week.

      • Psychiatric Program: Individuals who are seeking help for a variety of acute emotional and behavioral problems, or require treatment following an inpatient hospitalization, find the support necessary to regain stability and return to more functional roles.

      • Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Program: Frequently, people may experience emotional or behavioral difficulties and struggle with addiction issues at the same time. This program helps individuals to regain emotional stability and begin the work necessary to enter into recovery from substance abuse.

      • Addiction Recovery Program: At PHBH, we provide treatment and counseling for a wide range of addictions.  Establishing a support system that promotes ongoing recovery and stability is a critical part of recovery.  We help patients learn how to build and utilize support in their daily lives and to develop a variety of coping skills preventing relapse.

  • Older Adults

    • Continuum of Care for Older Adults

      • People face a multitude of personal and health-related issues as they age, which sometimes result in depression or other changes in emotional state. Princeton House Behavioral Health offers a variety of programs tailored to the needs of older adults.

    • Inpatient Geriatric Psychiatry Services

      • Location: Princeton

      • Our services for older adults includes state-of-the-art care in a supportive environment when depression, anxiety, addiction or other behavioral disturbances diminish quality of life. Treatment is provided by a team of psychiatrists, nurses and mental health specialists who are dedicated to helping each and every patient. 

    • Older Adult Outpatient Program: Senior Link

      • Locations: Princeton, North Brunswick, Moorestown, and Hamilton

      • The Senior Link Program offers Partial Hospital and Intensive Outpatient Services to older adults who are experiencing mental health issues which have an impact on their sense of well-being and overall functioning. Program hours vary depending on patient need. Seniors in the Partial Hospital Program attend six hours per day (9:30am - 3:30pm) four/ five days per week. Seniors in the Intensive Outpatient Program attend three hours per day (9:30am- 12:30pm) four/ five days per week. Transportation is available within defined areas.

      • Program Goals:

        • Reduce feelings of depression and anxiety

        • Strengthen connections and community support

        • Improve coping with issues and challenges with this phase of life including physical illness, grief, and loss

        • Increase sense of control in one's life

      • Program Features:

        • Comprehensive evaluation by Geriatric Psychiatrist

        • Group and Individual counseling

        • Coping and Life Skills training

        • Family Therapy and Education

        • Education about maintaining physical and emotional health

  • Men (Specialized Services)

    • Locations: Princeton and Moorestown

    • The Men's Program offers Partial Hospital and Intensive Outpatient Services to men who have experienced traumatic events that may be currently impacting their sense of well-being and overall functioning. Men in the Partial Hospital Program attend six hours per day (9:30am - 3:30pm) four/ five days per week. Men in the Intensive Outpatient Program attend three hours per day (9:30am - 12:30pm) three days per week. Transportation is available within defined areas.

    • Program Goals:

      • Understanding the relationship between trauma and psychiatric symptoms

      • Establishing and maintaining safety

      • Facilitating healthy ways of managing emotion

      • Avoiding the pitfalls of substance abuse

      • Teaching coping and relationship-building skills

      • Understanding how behaviors that were once adaptive and useful for survival may no longer serve that function

      • Building self-esteem and self-confidence through self empowerment

    • Program Features:

      • Comprehensive evaluation and medical management by Board Certified Psychiatrist

      • Group and Individual counseling

      • Coping and Life Skills training

      • Family Therapy and Education

      • Education about maintaining physical health and emotional health

      • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills group for better emotional control

  • Women (Specialized Services)

    • Locations: Princeton, North Brunswick, Moorestown, Hamilton, and Tinton Falls/Eatontown

    • Princeton House Behavioral Health (PHBH), a unit of Princeton HealthCare System, offers innovative behavioral healthcare for women. The Women’s Program is considered by many behavioral health professionals as the premier service of its kind in the State of New Jersey. It is sensitive to the special needs of women facing acute behavioral health crises, involving trauma, trauma and addiction, or life transitions.

    • The Women's Program of Princeton House Behavioral Health offers a wide range of mental health services across our continuum of care. A woman may enter treatment at any level, moving up or down the continuum as needed, while remaining with her clinical team and individual therapist. Level of care options are:

      • Partial Hospital -- Six-hour day treatment programs four to five days per week   (9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.)

      • Intensive Outpatient (IOP) -- Three-hour day treatment programs three days per week  (9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.)
