Safe Place is a national youth outreach program designed to provide access to immediate help and safety for all young people in crisis. Homelessness, domestic violence, substance abuse, and community troubles are just some of the expamoles of crises faced by youth on a daily basis.
How It Works:
A young person in crisis enters a Safe Place 'Site' displaying the Safe Place's recognizable yellow and black diamond-shaped logo and asks for help. The site employee reassures the youth that he or she is safe then contacts the Safe Place llicensed 'Agency'. Staff from the 'Agency' will transport youth to the licensed 'Agency' and provide the yout with supports and assistance with housing options, contacting family, and creating a plan of action to address the youth's immediate needs.
Community Access Unlimited (CAU) is a licensed Safe Place 'Agency' and additional sites in Union County include the Elizabeth Public Library, Hillside Fire Department, Jefferson Park Family Success Center, and the CAU Runaway and Homeless Youth Shelter.
Youths can also text "SAFE" with their current location to 69866
