Sea of Hope Counseling

Welcome! My name is Kaman Cheong-Lau, CEO and therapist at Sea of Hope Counseling.
It has been my calling to work with children, adolescents, and families from a young age. So I studied Psychology and Child and Family Studies for my undergraduate degree at Stony Brook University. I then pursued my Social Work degree at Rutgers University and worked towards my clinical licensure.
Over the years, I have worked with young children, adolescents, and parents, and have since branched out to work individually with adults across all age groups. I understand the importance and the need to take care of yourself as an individual before you can care for your loved ones or to achieve your goals.
I strive to build a trusting and supportive therapeutic relationship as you navigate through your unique journey, while instilling hope and light in the situation. I welcome you to a warm and safe space where you can feel fully seen and supported.
My therapeutic approach is grounded in the belief that everyone has and can pull from their inner strength to face their challenges where they are at, mentally and emotionally. I meet you where you are with compassion and encouragement, drawing from a strength-based and Nurtured Heart approach.
I incorporate techniques from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, Family Therapy, Mindfulness Practices, Narrative Therapy, and developmentally attuned interventions for children, adolescents, and adults.
Above all, I work towards supporting your goals, nurturing your inner wealth, and helping you develop skills as you move forward in your healing and growth.
I can work with children and adults across all age groups. I am offering telehealth service at this time only, and have afterschool and/or evening flexibility to meet your busy schedule.
